My Favorite 5-Minute Workout

By February 10, 2020 No Comments

When it comes to challenging workouts, I need accountability to be efficient and to push myself out of my comfort zone. Yep, it is true… even personal trainers need support and encouragement.

My first form of accountability is my workout partner, Sarah. The next best thing to Sarah is the timer on my phone!

Favorite At-Home or Gym Workout

One of my favorite workouts that pushes me out of my comfort zone is called an EMOM workout, otherwise known as “Every Minute On the Minute”. An EMOM circuit is a fun, effective, and creative way to get a quick workout in. The best part of this workout— once you pick your exercises, it’s mindless. Just do it. (Spoiler alert: bonus circuit ideas at the end!)

I find that setting a timer is THE best way to stay accountable to the workout, and for time management. And for us mamas, being efficient is essential. Everyone reading this post has 5 minutes to move, you just have to make exercise a priority.

For this EMOM, I choose three exercises for the set (^ click for video):

  1. Kettlebell Swings OR Squats
  2. Jump Squats OR Mountain Climbers
  3. Push-ups

Next, choose a pre-determined number of reps for each exercise = 5x.

The exercises have to be completed in a minute (ideally somewhere between 30-40 seconds). Once the set is complete, a rest break is taken, until the top of the minute. Repeat the next set of exercises at the top of the minute, for 5 minutes. 👊🏻

One of the great benefits of an EMOM workout is that they are easily modifiable for any level of fitness and can be completed in a short amount of time! Make it more challenging and go for 10 minutes, or increase your reps of each exercise so that there is less rest time.

In AMC’s Small Group Training sessions, I use an EMOM circuit as a “finisher” at the end of the session. 🔥My clients love … and hate them!

Give one of these circuits a try and report back.
